Health Benefits of Avocados
Avocados are considered as a powerhouse fruit, owning to the fact that it is filled with a variety of nutrients, which contribute to various health benefits. Three-quarters of the avocado’s calorie content is accounted by healthy monounsaturated fat, which is very beneficial in reducing LDL and is considered as a heart healthy fat. It is also rich in vitamin E, which helps to prevent cholesterol oxidation. Omega fats and vitamin E found in avocados are essential for maintenance of healthy skin and also helps to prevent photo aging from sun exposure. Avocados have minimal sugar content and have high fiber content and may help to maintain steady sugar levels. They are high in potassium and may help to control blood pressure levels. They are also rich in folate, which is necessary to prevent birth defects in newborn babies. Avocados are also a good source of various vitamins such as vitamin B6, vitamin b9, vitamin C, and vitamin K as well as various phytochemicals, which may help in preventing cancer.
Avocados are considered one among the healthiest fruits, which is why we should incorporate them into our diet. Here are few ways to include avocados into your diet.
It is a Mexican dip and can be made with absolutely no downtime.
· 3 avocados - peeled, pitted, and mashed
· 1 lime, juiced
· 1 teaspoon salt
· 1/2 cup diced onion
· 3 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander (optional)
· 2 plum tomatoes, diced
· 1 teaspoon minced garlic
· 1 pinch crushed red chili flakes (or more as per taste)
In a medium bowl, mash together the avocados, lime juice, and salt. Mix in onion, coriander, tomatoes, and garlic. Stir in chili flakes. Refrigerate 1 hour for best flavor, or serve immediately.
Guacamole can be eaten all by itself or with some plain potato chips or plain crackers. It can also be used as a spread for your sandwiches or chapatti rolls.
Here’s a healthy way to incorporate avocadoes into your breakfast.
2 ripe avocados
4 fresh eggs
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon chopped chives/ bacon bits /green onion/herb
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Slice the avocados in half, and take out the pit.
Scoop out about two tablespoons of flesh from the center of the avocado, just
enough so the egg will fit snugly in the center. Place the avocados in a small
baking dish. Do your best to make sure they fit tightly. Crack an egg into each
avocado half. Try your best to crack the yolk in first, and then let the egg whites spill
in to fill up the rest of the shell. Place in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
Cooking time will depend on the size of your eggs and avocados. Just make sure
the egg whites have enough time to set. Remove from oven, and then season with
pepper, chives or garnish of your choice.
