Healthy Homemade Granola

Its time for the recipe of the week!

Granola bars are probably one of the healthiest snacks to consume. Granola bars are filled with fiber from the whole grains, proteins from nuts and various kinds of minerals and anti oxidants from dried fruits but the prepackaged bars also contain tons of added sugar from high fructose corn syrup, trans fat, high amount of fat and various kinds of artificial flavors.

Here’s a healthy alternative to prepackaged granola bars...

Ingredients

2 ½ cups Elite oats (or 2 cups Elite Oats and ½ cup plain soulfull ragi cereal)

¼ cup Elite wheat germ

4 tbsp. butter

½ cup honey

1 cup chopped nuts (almonds or pistachios or peanuts or cashews)

1 cup chopped dried fruits (raisins or dried cranberries or dates or dried apricots)

¼ cup flaxseeds (optional)

1/3 Cup chocolate chips (optional for kids or if you prefer some added sweet)

1tsp vanilla essence

Recipe

In a saucepan, melt 4 tbsp. of butter. Then add ½ cup of honey and 1 tsp. vanilla essence and stir for 30 seconds until the melted butter and honey has combined well. In a bowl measure out 2 ½ cups of Elite oats, ¼ cup flax seeds, ¼ cup Elite wheat germ, 1 cup chopped nuts (of your choice), 1 cup dried fruits. To this oats mixture add the butter honey mixture and mix well until both the mixtures are well combined. Preheat your oven to 180 degree C. Pour the mixture in to a lightly greased baking (8x12) pan, and using your fingers firmly press the mixture into the pan. Take a minute to make sure the entire mixture is firmly pressed into the pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Cool for at least 2 hours before cutting into squares or rectangles. Serve at room temperature.

Enjoy this healthy granola and you will not be disappointed!!!
